We went to Toys R' Us today to look for a table and chair as well as a toy box for Alex's new playroom and were unimpressed with the selection and quality of both.  Although we like Little Tikes toys, Alex (19 months old) was more interested in pushing the plastic table around, and would never be able to reach into the giant Little Tikes toybox to reach his toys.  So we're looking for a sturdy and well-built wooden table/chair set, and just better selection and quality in the toy boxes. Does anyone have any brand or (chain) store recommendations for this type of furniture?  Do those specialty children's furniture stores generally carry toddler tables or just youth-sized desks? Thanks, Carole

We've got a very good little set of a plain table and 2 small chairs from there (actually, we have it twice! And it is cheaper now than when I bought ours). ~~~~~~ Alison http://www.theportico.co.uk

Thanks, Carole Try Target if you have one in your area.  My mom got a cute table and chairs there that we've brought over to Europe with us.  Don't know how much they were, but seeing as it was from Target, it cuoldn't have been outrageous. I've heard toy boxes aren't a very good idea because (a) kids can get trapped inside them, (b) they can get theri fingers mashed if the lid comes down suddenly, (c) everything gets completely mixed up in there so you can't find anything.  Shelves or shallow drawers might be a better option.
