I was already fairly competent on several other instruments when I took up the guitar, so learning from Parkening's book without a teacher may have been easier for me than it would be for you.  (On the I think you miss the point concerning what it means to learn to play the guitar. Just becuae you can read your way throught Parkening's book, doesn't mean you've really learned anything. I guess maybe Will skooted serendipitously into that gap between Lutemann's 'almost' and Lutemann's 'no significant information', struck a swollen vein.
